But for most people, the main reason to rent an RV is the freedom. Plus, your drives can be punctuated by stops to actually see sights—not just searches for the closest restroom.
We have a chart where you can Compare Anchorage RV rental companies, but as you make your choice, here are some things you should know: Most RVs are pretty user-friendly: Just the push of a button will indicate what onboard may need attention. But a good operator can help you plot your own course, talking about driving distances and good places to stop. Pick the Right Pricing Model for Your Trip Some companies charge you based on a day rate, and some companies charge you by the mile.

Mon Apr 18, 9: Haven’t got hold of the reversing camera supplier yet. The Hymer manual says the engine battery gets a ‘float charge’ from the hook up which brings back memories of a previous discussion but it’s been on hook-up for 36 hours now and has gained a bit of a charge according to the panel – now showing Will try it again off hook up and under load tomorrow. Mon Apr 18, Solar Power Solar power is the best answer to keep batteries trickle charged if van is left for any period not on a hook up.
Our 80 W panel charges even when it is snowing, and we can go on sites without hook ups for 4 days, even watching TV via the leisure battery and inverter Brian Location: However, as the manual says, it provides a float charge to the vehicle battery and that would take quite a while to recharge it if it were very flat. Also, the leisure batteries take priority so the starter battery will not get much charge if the leisure batteries are flat as well.
The system is designed to keep the starter battery conditioned when you are hooked up so the radio for example will not flatten it. Depending on whether you have gel or wet lead acid leisure batteries, and the capacity of the leisure batteries, it can take quite a while to charge them. Gel take a lot longer than wet lead acid. So, for example, if you have 2 x 80Ah gels, you may need to leave it on hookup for 48 hours to charge them.

Most of us relied on the batwing. And once the analog signal was done, the digital came out, we had some types of different antenna. The old batwing will still work and receive the digital signal. However, the analog can tweak the antenna around a little bit, so we can get a fairly good picture. Moreover, there are quite a number of TV antennas for the RV options.
Thus, you can have the best entertainment during your drive.
Be sure to get a spot in a campground that has the appropriate RV hookups for your type of rig and has enough room to accommodate the size. (The coveted pull through sites are always a plus!) Find the site hookups and see if you can keep the sewer connection as close to the RV as possible.
Print Email We’re now nearly three months into our third trip and one of the recurring problems from the previous tours is the matter of drying hair. Sophie, who has lovely long blonde hair, hates not being able to blow dry it properly. We tried all manor of 12v hair dryers which varied from pathetic to down right dangerous with melting wires and popping fuses. In the end she settled to dry it using the hot air vents in the cab, which in Summer was a bit overpowering! There are two types of inverter, pure sine and modified sine wave.
Pure sine wave is the better type which is exactly the same as the electricity you have at home. We purchased a Ring w Inverter – this particular model suited us for a number of reasons: Built in low battery voltage alarm and shutdown, over voltage, overload and temerature protection. LED Display – showing both battery voltage and watts consumed. Remote Control to turn off although we isolate is separately as it will still use a minute amount. By connecting it to the cab battery you can run the engine bringing the alternator into play delivering Amps back into the system.
You will find when the system is in use your rev’s will increase to allow the alternator to compensate for the power draw and I personally would not consider running it without having the engine running – so aim to dry your hair before you set off if you are moving on. First of all I removed the useless Fiat Jack from under the passenger seat, it is much better replaced with a trolly jack or similar in the back of the van.
Don’t forget to keep the towing eye out of it if you do though!

Brake control Battery power The first four pins are the same as the standard flat-four connections, and are connected to the tail light wiring harness run during Phase 3 above. The last two pins are used for the braking system. A standard Unified Tow Brake installation uses a separate two pin umbilical.
Hooking an RV Up to Your Home’s Electrical System While you can hook your RV up to a home’s electrical system, you won’t be able to run every appliance or use the electricity 24/7. You will most likely need to set your RV up to be able to connect to the standard 3-prong household plug you use at home.
Electric hook up on site Just joined Posts: We have a fuse box in the van and the switch for the sockets trips. Thank you all for your replies Posted: Electric hook up on site Posts: Suffolk, Hymer B It could be that you have a domestic-type consumer unit which has RCD protection of the power circuit but not the lights. The RCD is perhaps tripping because of the way the earth and neutral are connected.
Unless you have the requisite testing gear and skills, it’s perhaps time to get an electrician to take a look. Electric hook up on site Location: If the MCB were faulty, I would not expect the type of connection campsite hook-up or domestic power source to make a difference. Knaus Boxstar Street I agree that you should get an electrician to check your van’s electrics.
Hooking Up and Unhooking Up
After 4 decades working with wireless yes their has been wireless long before WiFi , I can say most of the time you are much better off with a hardwired installation — be it audio, video, data, whatever. That doesn’t mean I am anti-wireless, but that statement is based on years of both hardwire and wireless projects.
And certainly video wireless offers flexibility and easier installation than hardwire, but the engineering trade-offs of speed and noise immunity, among other parameters, are considerable in many cases. OK, engineering class is over. Very simply, you can run RG-6 cable on the roof inside split loom for protection. You can also run RG-6 and other cables under the RV.
Hooking up cable to your RV Cable hook up works the exact same as if you were connecting your cable box up at home. If your campground provides cable access you need to grab your coaxial cable and connect one end to the cable supply and the other into your rig.

Volkswagen Autosleeper Clubman GL, a typical European campervan The term motorhome is sometimes used interchangeably with campervan, but the former can also be a larger vehicle than a campervan and intended to be more comfortable, whilst the latter is more concerned with ease of movement and lower cost. Campervans usually have a small kitchen with a refrigerator which is often powerable by a choice of gas, battery, or mains electricity and a two-burner gas hob and grill. They generally have dual-voltage lighting which can work from either a dedicated battery other than the van battery known as a deep-cycle or leisure battery, or from AC power , supplied at a campsite via a hook-up cable.
Jun 12, · There are time when I cannot use my satellite dish and need to use the parks cable TV. I have a Winnebago Journey Express and when I hook up to the outside cable, using the correct connection on the coach, I cannot figure out how to get the signal to the TV.
Hooking Up Your Toad To Your Motorhome Once you have obtained the proper pieces to safely tow your vehicle behind your motorhome, the next step is to know the right way to hook up and attach all the pieces. First, you need to attach the tow bar pieces to the baseplate of your vehicle. They are held in place with pins and clasps, but I also add padlocks on each adapter. That way, I have better peace of mind that they will stay in place even if one of the pins should happen to come loose.
Next, the tow bar itself is positioned over the adapters and then attached to the adapters using padlocks or pins. Obviously, you need enough room to get the toad behind the motorhome and relatively straight. The V-bar style tow bar requires that you and your partner get the toad exactly lined up so that the cup on the front of the tow bar is aligned with the ball on the motorhome. Once the cup and ball are mated, be sure that the latch on top of the cup is fully seated and is latched.
It is possible to set the cup on the ball in such a way that the latch will not catch—and your toad can come loose. After attaching the tow bar, and latching the cup and ball, always give the bar a good jerk upwards to be sure that it is not going to pop loose.
